The Cisco ASR1000 10-GBps Embedded Services Processor (ESP) is a control Processor that provides centralized forwarding-engine options for the Cisco ASR 1000 Series Aggregation Services Routers. The 10-GBps ESP (ESP10) supports up to 10 gigabits per second of bandwidth and can be deployed in customer networks that require 1 + 1 redundancy when paired with the Cisco ASR 1006 Router chassis. Based on the innovative Cisco QuantumFlow Processor (QFP) for next-generation forwarding and queuing in silicon, the ESP10 delivers multi-gigabit Cisco IOS Firewall capability in a router without the need for service blades. Other features include: hardware-assisted quality of service (QoS), hardware-based encryption, and latency-minimizing multicast packet replication.
